Get ready for Euro Truck Simulator 1.12 Update

Not much time has passed since we released ETS2 1.11 game update, yet already we are in the final testing stages of 1.12 update. We are fortunate that there are no road-blocks in the game code now delaying release, so we can try a shorter release cycle now, and avoid sitting on the features for the sake of a larger batch. The new version may contain less changes compared to its predecessor than what the feature-packed 1.11 has brought, but there is some good stuff coming, and coming soon.

ETS2 version 1.12 will bring you four new features, plus it will prepare the game binaries for "A New Type of the DLC" - not paint-jobs this time! We plan to release this DLC simultaneously with the update.

Let's list 3 of those features now:

Truck browser

Browse, build, visualize and preview any unlocked truck in the game. Also it is possible to apply and preview paint jobs for any truck. If you are a MOD maker, this is a super useful feature for fast browsing of your creations without leaving the desktop, rather than having to drive to the nearest truck shop of a given truck brand.

Trailer Browser

Browse all trailers, their types and sub-types featured in the game. Yet again if you happen you have a MOD trailer in the game, you can check it out right away in the Trailer browser without having to wait for it to spawn randomly in the game.

Photo Mode Enhancements

We are still astonished with the gorgeous shots you guys upload to World of Trucks. New Photo mode features are:

Ability to change the Color Balance of your image
Change Saturation
Change the Roll the camera, if you desire extra creativity in your composition

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uSKtyq2qY4U/U ... 00/001.jpg

And at last - "The New Type of the DLC". We will be revealing it in our almost-regular Friday blog post. So see you back here in two days!

Greetings!

In our previous post we have revealed three out of four upcoming features of 1.12 Euro Truck Simulator update. The feature we haven't covered yet is related to The New Type of DLC we would like to introduce today.

Simultaneously with the 1.12 update, we will release High Power Cargo Pack DLC, which will expand the cargo range in the game by 7 custom cargoes. Here they are:

HELICOPTER

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Prwm6kuuCF4/U ... 00/004.jpg

DRILLER

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0zYQ1QrO8rg/U ... 00/001.jpg

AIR CONDITIONERS

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JERTWifduPA/U ... 00/002.jpg

YACHT

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3e5vM4AHiaM/U ... 00/005.jpg

TRACTOR

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wpKoN8GPE2k/U ... 00/006.jpg

GAS PIPELINE PARTS

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-szj-QrblSsY/U ... 00/007.jpg

TRACKS

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PYNg9oymiAM/U ... 00/003.jpg

In addition to the new cargoes, DLC will include an extra bonus - special Heavy Duty customizable paint job, some variations of which you see here on the screenshots. We felt that such a paint job fits rather nicely to transportation of such types of cargo.

Lastly, the fourth 1.12 Update feature will allow you to filter and search your next cargo more easily. We have implemented cargo filtering by the following groups: Machinery, ADR, Containers, Refrigerated, Liquid, Fragile, Construction, and Bulk Cargo.

So now you shouldn't have a problem to find your desired type of load, including new cargoes from High Power Cargo Pack, among the hundreds job offers the game usually has available at any moment.

High Power Cargo Pack DLC is based on new code hooks implemented in the 1.12 Update, so if you want to use it, make sure to allow the Steam client to update the game to the latest version. This DLC is yet one more that will only be available for the Steam edition of the game - as we tried to explain previously, we don't have the infrastructure in place to allow for purchasing and maintaining of micro-DLCs.

Map production of ETS2 Scandinavia add-on is in the final stages. That's not to say it is completed, there is a lot of testing, tuning, and optimizing ahead of us. You should be aware that with the scale of the add-on, it will take months of polishing before we can consider our work ready for release.

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-folXSpFhC0k/V ... 00/004.jpg

Our map design team is taking great pains to get the feeling of the region right and to make the Scandinavian cities and environments as they are in real life.

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pf4h4wKYR2A/V ... 00/001.jpg

Even though our programmers keep improving our tool chain for better efficiency, such detailed environments are harder and take longer to build than what we were used to only 2-3 years ago.

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-L6mxC_HF5gU/V ... 00/005.jpg

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PV9qrFAgKSQ/V ... 00/002.jpg

Of course not every part of the map can be made true-to-life based on a real location, but we sprinkle the world with such locations generously. Our hope is that such attention to detail will boost the fun with exploration of the world, especially for our players in Scandinavia who know these places very well.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iRVZNPYLjbM/V ... 00/003.jpg

Meanwhile, the quest to offer dedicated paint liveries for truckers in the countries where our game sells the best continues today, with the release of French Paint Job Pack DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2 on Steam. Check it out!

1.14 Update news and
Across the desert in American Truck Simulator
Euro Truck Simulator 2 team is working hard on finalizing of ETS2 1.14 Update. Stabilization of this large update had been our focus for several weeks already.

The development team's long-term assignment is very challenging. We are not just "patching" the game with bug fixes two full years after its release. We are committed to bringing you significant improvements every couple of months. That's why we prefer to call new game version releases "updates" rather than "patches".

For every update release, we need to hit a moment in time when we have a stable and as much as possible bug-free combination of game data and source code. Our team may work on 10+ major features in parallel, yet for a given game update we usually decide that just two or three of them are already mature enough for publishing. The rest needs to stay hidden from public eyes until it's ready. However, the priorities of finalizing, bug fixing, and polishing of the particular features picked for an update and working on "future stuff" in parallel are quite contradictory and really hard to follow at the same time and within the same asset database and game source code. To release an update, ideally everything should be in the "freeze" mode to minimize the danger of introducing new bugs. But "freeze" is the enemy of progress - we cannot stop working on "future stuff" for too long if we want to see good progress on major features or optimizations that often require half a year or more of dedicated time.

We still haven't found an ideal solution to this problem of trying to focus both on short term incremental improvements and on long term "big picture" evolution. It may be frustrating for the dev team at times, and it may also be frustrating for you, the players, as you have to wait longer for game updates. But we are doing what we can, and we hope that the string of future updates and releases coming from SCS Software's labs will justify a little bit of frustration. ;)

So anyway, we feel that we are very close to releasing the public beta of 1.14 update for ETS2! We will do it with the help of Steam's back-end just as during the previous public betas. The feedback loop from a public beta is really very useful in the final stages before an official release. We'd rather not promise any particular release dates, but the ambition is "days" rather than "weeks".

In case you have missed the new ETS2 update 1.14 features we had mentioned here on the blog earlier, they include tag-lift truck axles and finally the new DAF Euro 6 truck.

Meanwhile, the American Truck Simulator team is never ceasing to work. There is grumbling that we don't pay enough attention to their project on the blog. So let us wrap up the long and heavy rant post with a couple of screenshots of American desert setting from American Truck Simulator to cheer you up on the weekend...

Some more of heavy duty sound recording

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zbDKrOP-EsM/V ... 00/003.jpg

We haven't produced a blog post for a while now, sorry! The team is hard at work on finalizing the fixes of bugs reported by the community during our current Steam Beta of 1.14 Update so that we can finally release it properly.

However today we'd like to show you something different:

As we've mentioned before on our blog, our audio team is working on re-recording sounds for the range of trucks featured in Euro Truck Simulator 2. The setup and procedure is now so thorough that it may even take 2 days to record all we need!

There is no particular prioritized list of trucks that we could follow, instead we record the vehicles as they become available to us. During the past two weeks, the trips of our team resulted in capturing new sets of sounds for the two trucks pictured below - Iveco Stralis Hi-Way and new Mercedes Actros 1845.

New recording setup allows our sound engineer to capture humming of the engine and noises in detail previously not available in our game.

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-W47LSRM4qjI/V ... 00/001.jpg

The whole truck sound system is being refined, which involves changes in programming, in data structures, and of course lots of new sfx files. New audio samples will be added to the game in one of future updates.

Euro Truck Simulator 2 - 1.14 DAF Update is live!

Today's release marks the end of another fruitful beta testing period – during the testing phase, the community has yet again helped us pinpoint and resolve important issues prior to public release of the update.

We would like to thank all of the beta participants for helping us shape the final version of the update, your constant support allows us to create the definitive truck simulation experience.

Check out some fresh images of the new DAF XF Euro 6 truck below. OK, to make the best impression, we have cheated a bit when making those pictures. The vehicle is featured in new areas of the virtual world of ETS2 to be released as part of Scandinavia DLC, already under new 'light and skies' – a new approach to day/night cycle that we are developing now. A little hint of what to expect in future updates! :)

Dashboards at night

Just today we have finished programming one more neat feature - support for different color dashboard button back-light. Until now we were limited just to white back-light, but in reality way more color variety is used by truck manufacturers.

The screenshot below shows that immediately we have started improving the just-released Euro 6 DAF, for the next Euro Truck Simulator 2 update we would like to improve as much of our truck fleet for night driving as possible.

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1IBik79hOOs/V ... _night.jpg

We have a plea for the real truckers among you. Finding good reference is very hard for us. We have taken tons of photos and videos of interiors while we test-drive the trucks, but we had seldom done so in the dark. If you have access to a truck featured in our game, would you be so kind to send us a photograph of the interior, with engine and lights on, taken in the evening? To give us a clear idea of the night-lit dashboard, you would have to take it without use of flash, so that the elements of the dashboard can be recognizable.

We have created a special section for this research on our message board, if you want to contribute to our know-how, please follow this URL: http://forum.scssoft.com/viewforum.php?f=152. Thank you!

As the release of DLC Scandinavia is getting closer, we decided to give you another sneak peek at a new location included in the update. Today we would like to show off one of the new delivery areas: Scania truck plant in Södertälje, just south of Stockholm. This location and its surroundings have been carefully re-created in cooperation with Scania, allowing us to give you a feeling as if you were coming to the factory yourself.

Check out the picture below for comparison with actual factory entrance.

We also had one of the community's favorite video creators – Squirrel; known by many as creator and host of Sunday Night Trucking show – visiting us in our office today. As you can see, a formal hat and t-shirt exchange had to be made! Paul is a really cool guy, he recorded quite a lot of footage in our office and got a lot of honest answers to his questions. We are looking forward to seeing a video report from his trip to Prague!
